Docent Tour Caravaggio Exhibit

Docent led tour of the Caravaggio Exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art on March 17 at noon!

On Sunday March 17, we have the opportunity to participate in a docent-led view of the Toledo Museum of Art's short-term exhibit, "The Brilliance of Caravaggio." The exhibit "presents four important paintings by Caravaggio in conversation with works from the Museum’s permanent collection. The exhibition marks the first time in more than a decade that four paintings by this renowned Italian artist have been on view together in the United States."  This group is limited to 20 people.

When you enter the museum, check in at the reception desk and get a ticket for the Caravaggio exhibit. We will gather at noon at the museum's cafe, where a table will have been reserved for us. Lunch will be at your own expense. After lunch, we will tour the exhibit on our own and at our own pace (estimated at around 30 minutes). Our docent will meet us as we exit the exhibit and will then take us to other art in the museum's collection that illustrates the breadth and intensity of Caravaggio's influence on other artists. Note that the museum has determined that allowing docents to expound on Caravaggio while inside the exhibit reduces the number of guests who can flow through the exhibit in any period of time, which is why we will meet our docent after we view the Caravaggios.

There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board. Sign-ups are first-come, first-served. If you can not get to church to sign up, contact Susan Winters at grwii@roadrunner.com to have her add you to the list. There will be a waiting list, so if you sign up and then determine that you can not attend, please be sure to advise Susan so she can move someone into the group of 20 off of the waiting list. That process will include the morning of the 17th. Susan will advise you whether you are confirmed or wait-listed and will notify you if you move up from the wait list.

Our docent, Sharon, will e-mail those with confirmed spaces additional details, so watch for that e-mail if you are confirmed.

The exhibit is free to museum members. If you are not a member, the cost to tour the exhibit is $10 per person. Museum parking is also free to members. Parking for non-members is $10 per vehicle. The museum is located at 2445 Monroe Street in Toledo, and parking is at 804 Art Museum Drive.
