Docent Tour Caravaggio Exhibit
Mar

Docent Tour Caravaggio Exhibit

Docent led tour of the Caravaggio Exhibit at the Toledo Museum of Art on March 17 at noon!

On Sunday March 17, we have the opportunity to participate in a docent-led view of the Toledo Museum of Art's short-term exhibit, "The Brilliance of Caravaggio." The exhibit "presents four important paintings by Caravaggio in conversation with works from the Museum’s permanent collection. The exhibition marks the first time in more than a decade that four paintings by this renowned Italian artist have been on view together in the United States."  This group is limited to 20 people.

When you enter the museum, check in at the reception desk and get a ticket for the Caravaggio exhibit. We will gather at noon at the museum's cafe, where a table will have been reserved for us. Lunch will be at your own expense. After lunch, we will tour the exhibit on our own and at our own pace (estimated at around 30 minutes). Our docent will meet us as we exit the exhibit and will then take us to other art in the museum's collection that illustrates the breadth and intensity of Caravaggio's influence on other artists. Note that the museum has determined that allowing docents to expound on Caravaggio while inside the exhibit reduces the number of guests who can flow through the exhibit in any period of time, which is why we will meet our docent after we view the Caravaggios.

There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board. Sign-ups are first-come, first-served. If you can not get to church to sign up, contact Susan Winters at grwii@roadrunner.com to have her add you to the list. There will be a waiting list, so if you sign up and then determine that you can not attend, please be sure to advise Susan so she can move someone into the group of 20 off of the waiting list. That process will include the morning of the 17th. Susan will advise you whether you are confirmed or wait-listed and will notify you if you move up from the wait list.

Our docent, Sharon, will e-mail those with confirmed spaces additional details, so watch for that e-mail if you are confirmed.

The exhibit is free to museum members. If you are not a member, the cost to tour the exhibit is $10 per person. Museum parking is also free to members. Parking for non-members is $10 per vehicle. The museum is located at 2445 Monroe Street in Toledo, and parking is at 804 Art Museum Drive.

The March 3 program is offered in honor of the late Dr. Hollis Merrick. According to his wife, Hollis had a life-long appreciation of classical music. For the March 3 event, the recital space will open at 2:30 PM. Admission is free, and there is no reserved seating.  St. Timothy Episcopal church is located at 871 East Boundary, Perrysburg. The facility is accessible and offers ample parking.

About the artistsAnthony Pattin has had an extensive and varied performance career, beginning with his professional orchestral debut with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, performing Gershwin’s Concerto in F.  Since that time, he has performed with the symphonies of Alabama, Arkansas, Tuscaloosa (AL), and Abilene (TX) among many others. He has appeared in Chicago, Los Angeles and twice in New York City in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Pattin was a touring artist under the sponsorship of the Alabama State Council of the Arts.  While in Alabama, he received the prestigious Governor’s “Artist for the New Millennium” Award in 2001.  Currently, Pattin is the organist/pianist for First St. John Lutheran Church in Toledo. For the past seven years, he has been a part of the MostArts Music Festival and Piano Competition at Alfred University (NY). Pattin serves as piano soloist, chamber musician and as a piano competition judge for MostArts Festival. He has seven recordings (CD) available on the APT label.

Collaborating with Dr. Pattin will be Toledo area clarinetist Lesli McCage Simmons (pictured above), currently the clarinet instructor for the University of Toledo. Previous Toledo area performances include appearances with the Toledo Symphony, Sono Novo Chamber Orchestra and the Ballet Theater of Toledo. A native southener, she studied at the Universities of Montevallo (AL) and Alabama, at Tuscaloosa. While in Alabama, McCage Simmons performed with the Alabama Symphony, Huntsville Symphony and the Tuscaloosa Symphony. Here in northwest Ohio, she has performed several times on “Live from FM-91” on WGTE radio.

About the music The March 3 recital offers many favorites from the solo piano repertoire, including Le Tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel, Prelude in G Major by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Novelette in F Major by Robert Schumann. Among the several twentieth century compositions are Three Visions by William Grant Still, Spiritual Suite by Margaret Bonds and Suite from the Victorian Kitchen by Paul Reade. Ms. McCage Simmons, who first worked with Pattin while they both were at Montevallo, will join Tony for two selections for clarinet and piano. They will perform Johannes Brahms’ Sonata for Clarinet, movement III (Andante con moto) and Leonard Bernstein’s Sonata for Clarinet, movement I (Grazioso).

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Join us for this church tradition! The pancake supper will begin at 6:00 pm in the parish hall. All are welcome and food and drinks will be provided. There will also be crafts for the kids.

Why do we eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?

It was traditional in many societies to make foods with butter, eggs and fat that would need to be used up before the beginning of Lent. Another delicious example of this is pączki. The specific custom of Anglican Christians eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday dates all the way back to the 16th century, when the church bells would ring at noon, signaling to folks that it was time to fry up their pancakes. The tradition of racing with pancakes is said to come from running to church after cooking the last cake. In the UK Shrove Tuesday is known as Pancake Tuesday!

Trunk or Treat

We are excited to announce our upcoming "Trunk or Treat"! This family and dog friendly event will take place on October 29th, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the parking lot of Saint Timothy's, located at 871 E. Boundary, Perrysburg, OH 43551.

This event is free and open to everyone in the Perrysburg community and surrounding areas. Leashed dogs are welcome! Invite your neighbors, grandkids, and friends!

If it rains we will move the treats, crafts, and games inside.

So what exactly is Trunk-or-Treat?

The idea is simple: Volunteers bring their cars to the St. Tim's parking lot. The drivers and their families dress up themselves and/or their cars for Halloween and bring candy to pass out. Children come to St. Tim's to walk from vehicle to vehicle, collecting candy the way they would during a normal trick-or-treating outing.

Activities at the "Trunk or Treat" event will include:

·       Candy stations with allergy-friendly options.

·       Spooky and fun decorations.

·       Creative crafts for children to enjoy.

·       Community spirit and the chance to connect with neighbors.

We encourage attendees to come dressed in their favorite costumes.

If you have questions about the event or are interested in volunteering please contact the front office via email, office@saint-timothy.net .

9 AM Service and Special Meeting
Oct

9 AM Service and Special Meeting

October 22, 2023 - One service at 9:00 a.m., including special congregational meeting.  The purpose of the special meeting is to vote on proposed amendments to the By-laws.  Proposed amendments are:

  • Allowing the size of the vestry to be within a range of seven to eleven members, determined annually by the prior year's vestry.  The By-laws currently provided a fixed number at eleven.  This range allows for the size of vestry to flex based on differing needs of the congregation each year, and is consistent with the Canons which provide that vestry shall consist of no fewer than five and no more than eighteen members.

  • Confirming that one member of the vestry may be, but is not required to be, a youth member.  This preserves the congregation's desire to have youth representation on vestry, but recognizes that this is not possible every year due to the composition of the congregation.

  • Providing that the clerk may, but is not required to, also serve as warden-in-training.  This change allows for flexibility.  The By-laws do not require that the clerk be a vestry member.

The proposed revisions will be made available at the church.
